Following the NHS Constitution 2009–2010 and the Health and Social Care Act 2012, placing the service user at the centre of all decision making has become a central component of healthcare quality, with service user experience being found to have positive associations with safety and clinical effectiveness. Additionally, as per the Equality Act 2010, all public bodies have a due regard to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations between people who share protected characteristics and those who do not. This policy aims to detail how service user-centred care can be achieved in clinical care and decision making.
