Effective supervision can support, enhance and inform practice. Clinical and non-clinical team members, depending on their role will have different professional requirements. Effective supervision allows a company to be able to identify additional learning and/or developmental needs to facilitate its team members in their ongoing professional growth and development.

Supervision is important to maintain quality of care and support to ensure that staff feel supported, support ongoing learning and development, celebrate achievements, to support problem solving and to meet regulatory standards.

It is usually carried out by one person who has some related knowledge and skills, and who takes responsibility and accountability for supporting the wellbeing and performance of the person being supervised i.e., the supervisee.
